Jaiik Lee graduated from Hongik University in 2000, where he majored in metal art and design, and received his M.A. from the graduate school of the same university in 2005. And he received his second M.A. in hammering work from the Rochester Institute of Technology in the US in 2011. While he worked in the US, he was selected as a two-time finalist and a winner in the NICHE Awards (craft work competition of North America). From 2001 so far, he has held six solo exhibitions and took part in 80 group exhibitions. He has been creating metal objets, modern art accessories, light fixtures, and installation works. Lee displayed his metal objets series, called “Transition,” for the first time in the group exhibition ‘Between Languages’ that he organized in 2019. The first piece of the series, “Transition I,” is owned now by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. In the same year, he received Grand Prize at the Cheongju Craft Biennale, Award for Promising Talent at the Itami International Craft Exhibition, and Outstanding Artist Award at the Craft Trend Fair. Since he displayed his series in the two-person exhibition that was held in Gallery Sklo in 2020, he has carried out various experiments in terms of form, expanding the expression realm of his pieces as conceptual objets.

이재익은 2000년 홍익대학교 금속조형디자인과(Metal Art and Design)를 졸업하고 2005년에 동대학원에서 석사학위를 마쳤다. 미국으로 건너가 2011년에 Rochester Institute of Technology에서 전통적인 판금작업(hammering work)으로 두 번째 석사학위를 취득하였다. 미국에 있는 동안 북아메리카 공예 공모전인 ‘NICHE Awards’에서 두 번의 Finalist와 한 번의 winner 자격을 획득하였다. 그는 2001년부터 6차례의 개인전을 열었고 80여회의 전시회에 참가하여 금속 오브제, 현대 장신구, 조명, 그리고 설치작업을 선보여 왔다. 그의 금속 오브제 시리즈인 ‘Transition’은 2019년에 그가 기획한 그룹전 ‘Between Languages’에서 처음 선보여졌다. 그때 선보였던 시리즈의 첫 번째 작품 ‘Transition I’은 National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art에 소장되어 있다. 같은 해에 ‘Cheongju Craft Biennale’에서 ‘Grand Prize’, ‘Itami International Craft Exhibition’에서 ‘Award for Promising Talent’, ‘Craft Trend Fair’에서 ‘Outstanding Artist Award’를 수상하였다. 2020년 Gallery Sklo에서 열린 2인전에서 그의 시리즈는 많은 형태적 실험들을 선보인 이래, 개념적 오브제로서의 표현 범위를 확장하고 있다.
